Haida Gwaii
Haida Gwaii is an archipelago off British Columbia’s west coast, in Canada. Wildlife-rich Gwaii Haanas National Park Reserve and Haida Heritage Site includes remote islands and temperate rainforest. Centuries-old totem poles stand in the remains of the Haida Nation village known as SGang Gwaay. From fossil records, we know the Haida were present at least 7,000 years ago, and probably earlier as the Pleistocene glaciers were retreating by then.

Skedans
Remains of Haida long house pit - note terraces - up to 30 people would live in these, with the chief living in the back. The house had only one low entrance at the front and you would have to bend over to enter. It caused an intruder to have to duck, and made it easier to smack him over the head with a paddle.
